The tawny owl cried once, and then two seconds later, it cried again. Its voice became a historical artifact, manifested as an image, depicting a wave form.
In 2011, it almost became the official logo of the Animal Sound Archive, but a PR consultant did not approve. She said it was too vague, too unprecise. People might mistunderstand it. As a compromise, it was printed on a limited series of coffee mugs. One of them is standing on a desk in Karl’s office.
